Indoor tanning equipment is designed to tan you in the same way as outdoor sunlight. The lights in a tanning bed emit UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B) light in the same ratio as the sun at noon in the summer in Canada: 95 percent is UVA and 5 percent is UVB.
Our tanning bed emits about 95 percent UVA and 5 percent UVB in regulated dosages similar to summer sun. The recommended exposure schedules designed for the tanning industry allow trained tanning equipment operators to set incremental exposure times, based on the “skin type” of their clients. The tanning bed sessions are calculated to deliver consistent, non-burning exposure to UV light to allow clients to gradually build a golden tan.
The light from a tanning bed may be 2-3 times as intense as summer sun, so the length of each tanning session is controlled, to minimize the risk of sunburn. A typical indoor tanning exposure schedule (below) allows our tanning specialists to gradually increase the exposure times of a client based on the individual’s skin type.
